Sitting may be killing you, but it's making me tons of money. So keep on keepin' on, baby.
Great article, and I am now pursuing a career in medical billing and coding.
I have a random question unrelated to this post, but related to yesterday's work-out. How come guys can literally CRUSH girls on bench press? I'm not even talking about putting up 100#s over the girls weight, but literally more than DOUBLE what the girls can do. Is it because the females in general don't have as much experience with bench, or is this movement harder for us physically? Just curious....
Guys are much stronger through the chest and shoulders, and we don't have to worry about hurting the funbags....
Also, bench press motor skills are housed in the area of the brain that is also responsible for shopping and crying, so we have more capacity.
Ha, Just yesterday I made myself a standing desk workstation, felt Great!
I think you nailed it, Dre.
It's just an unfortunate combination of girls typically having less strength in general (roughly ~67% of boys I think?) and lack of familiarity/comfort with the movement. Even for the ones who haven't benched in a while, I imagine it would be akin to the OHS. Strength is vital, but just developing the muscle memory to perform it with good technique will buy you the biggest gains. And, again likening OHS to benching, even if you took some time off, that muscle memory is still there, so guys like MikeD, etc., who no doubt did shitloads of benching in their pre-CF days, will be able to jump back into some big lifts with relative ease.
Also - MikeD's right about the funbags. And probably the shopping/crying too...
Also, Dre, I think it helps anyone's bench pressing ability if they are able to get through life completely happy owning 7 pairs of shoes or less, and that includes, running, lifting, and crossfit shoes. Parallel Parking capabilities are also very helpful, so there you go.
HA! Thanks Kim and Mike D. When I made that post, in my head I literally thought...Most likely to provide me with a funny explanation: Mike D.....Most Likely to Be Helpful and Insightful, Kimtastic. My theory proved correct. I love having reliable friends :) Thanks guys! Kim - makes sense! Thanks!! Mike D - your theories have merit as well.
If chest strength on a woman is reflective of bench press maxes, I'd be willing to bet Blondie at Clermont can rep 315lb ten times.
Will have to take your word for it, Corey. I would want to sterilize that bar in boiling water before following her, I can tell you that..
This is actually how I feel especially when I'm in front of my computer from morning til afternoon.
