Disposable Heroes Project WOD
08.27.2010
Event,
WOD Level 2
Todays WOD is honor of the Disposable Heroes Project that began as an 100 mile ultra-marathon by Marine Sgt. Brad Mckee and several of his fellow service men to honor those who had been wounded in battle and for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this great country. Support for their efforts continues to grow and so does the project.
Tonight from 7 -9 PM our friends at CrossFit Atlanta are holding a fundraising for WOD Marine Sgt. Brad Mckee and The Disposable Heroes Project. The minimum donation to workout is $15. All the details are here.
We encourage all CFNA'ers to show their support and join this workout. We are going to run the WOD today for all those that can't make it tonight. We'll also put out a bucket for donations that we'll take over to Sgt. McKee from CFNA.
NOTE: THE 7:30 PM WOD IS CANCELLED TODAY
There is nothing like a brutal workout for a great cause. It really makes you dig deep. Go hard. Because of simple time constraints we are going to suggest 3 rounds (and a 2 burpee penalty) for most folks today. If you want to do all 5.. have at it. We will stick around as long as you want to keep working.
5 Rnds for time
400m Run
40m lunge
25 Knees to Elbows*
25 PushUps
25 Burpee Pull-ups
* 5 burpees everytime you drop from the bar during knees to elbow
T-Rex
I got this from friend & CFNA'er Captain Matthew Hoff just a few days ago. Watch it.
T,
was on the CFNA site and saw that you were doing a disposable heroes WOD. If you need a little motivation to fire up the Troops, this is a video of my West Point classmate and fellow Georgian Dan Berschinski. He was wounded in Afg while I was in Iraq. Hope ya'll crush it
Matt

Props to the morning crew for toughing this one out. It was a real slug fest!
I thought I'd do a quick follow up about the meat that Travis and I ordered this month from a local farmer called Franklin. First of all the meat is awesome! It has a really fresh taste...much better than the grass fed that I was buying at whole foods. It's also really convenient having it already in the freezer rather than having to keep going to the store. Also, Franklin is really really nice and was willing to trade certain cuts for others and even added in some extras to try...my sister Mary got some breakfast sausage that she said was awesome. Anyway...we're probably going to try to do another month and Franklin really would love to have more people join in since he has to drive a pretty long way to deliver. We might even be able to have him deliver at the gym if that would help. Our 20 lbs ended up costing $130...let me know if you're interested in the next shipment and I'll give him a call
it's Captain Hoff
E-Rex, I'm interested. I can't remember, is $20 the minimum buy-in?
I meant 20 lbs.
I underestimated this workout. I just started feeling right 2.5 hours after finishing.
AM Crew gave a solid performance, and I have to echo Charlie's thoughts based on watching 2 classes go through 3 rounds of this monster---DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HOW THIS LOOKS ON PAPER. It is nasty. Be prepared to do work.
JCam - any ideas on how they're running this tonight at CFATL? Would we be able to do the scaled version (3 rounds) there as well? Not sure my hands can handle all 5 rounds...
Jess, you're not a hand model. You're a crossfitter. It's for the heroes. Suck it up.
this morning so hard! i have already eaten my breakfast, lunch and snacks for the day!
Wow. Thank you Captain Matthew Hoff. People like Captain Hoff and Kyle Maynard sure put things into perspective when we have aches and pains and complain about how tough a workout is or how hard we have it. Here you have a man who lost his legs defending us and is still standing strong with an awesome attitude and don't think for a second that Kyle wouldn't be on your heels in a heartbeat if you slowed down. What a reality check. Thanks for posting that T. Just what I needed.
@E-Rex - Count Fudger and I in for the next delivery. We can bring the $130 check to Travis at the gym if need be. (Like I would just hand over $130 in cash to Travis...) Just let us know what is easiet for Franklin. Thanks for coordinating this!
Grammer Correction - Fudger and me
MC, it's G-R-A-M-M-A-R.
E-Rex, I'm in for some beef. Please let me know how you want me to get you the money. Should I give it to T?
That is real. Thanks for sharing that video. That guy is truly cock diesel. Very thankful for the sacrifices men and women of the armed forces make for us every day.
Grammer Correction - Fudger and me
MC, so you want to do a spelling correction on the grammar correction??
@bracken - you are starting to understand cockdiesel
@HILLS!! gald you like the post - does that get me off the hook for not returning your email from like 2 weeks ago?
@madman - thanks for the rank check - I pulled that off of an old email and had a feeling it was wrong
@the CrossFit Women - great work today ladies. Ya'll really dug deep to get through that.
@jess, not sure of any scaled options tonight. it's going to be pretty rough.
who's carpooling and what time are we leaving? parking will definitely be an issue over there.
Today was absolutely the worst WOD I have ever done. Do I still get a free t-shirt if I puked a/f I got out of the shower?
What a touching video! thank you to all of those soldier and veterans out there!
Also, have yall noticed that CF and Paleo are all over the place now? I am at work and on our intranet today is an article about one of our employees in Dallas. The whole article is about her CrossFit lifestyle and competiions. She was at the games in July and everything. Do you realize that my firm in the US alone has 23,000 employees all reading this article?!?!?Awesome!
i want meat but i don't want 20lbs... can we revisit the idea of meat-sharing or meat-families???
Ok, I am going to take the high road, but someone please make jokes about Daryn's post.
D, MC wont mind sharing some of the Fudger meat!
Daryn...I will share with you. Trying to be very cautious of my word choice as to avoid ridicule from Charlie and Corey.
Diara - that's good enough for me. Next time try and get it out in the parking lot.
JCam - Mack and I were going to ride over there together... probably head over about 6:30? You're welcome to ride with us.
Mack, I don't know what you are talking about...I took the high road.
Charlie, you took the high road with D's comment, something tells me if I had let a phrase slip, you would have given in and veered right on off that road.
The cumulative effect of this week has left my arms the sorest they've been all year. I'm breaking down and taking some ibuprofen. Is anyone else this banged up?
Ask me tomorrow Whit, if I'm still alive after the Heroes WOD tonight... I've decided that if I can make it through all 5 rounds, I deserve Johnny's Pizza and beer. Who's down?
jess, call me! i would be up for pizza :)
Good luck to all you brave souls going for five rounds tonight. I am a humbled man after three. Brutal week but pretty fun in a sadistic way.
I've got 4 tickets behind home plate and two parking passes to the Gwinnett Braves tonight if anybody wants them...first come first serve! Bad timing with the Disposable Heroes Project tonight, I know, but let me know if you want them!
Good luck everyone going tonight. Completing 5 rounds of this WOD is a true accomplishment, regardless of time. Start getting your head right now, you will need all the mental determination you can muster.
I really thought after one round this afternoon there was no way I had two more in me. Somehow I survived. I still feel a little shaky. Major props to anyone who does five tonight.
Jess I'm always game for pizza and beer.
T-Rex... thanks for the video brother. It is this kind of selfless attitude that allows us all to sleep peaceably at night. These men and women offer their lives for US!!!!! I am proud to have been a member of the United States Army as an infantryman and have lost many a good friend, but every one of them knew that it was because of them, that their families could live they way they do and that was motivation enough. As for the Disposable Heroes WOD.... It was great to see the Cock Diesel shirts a plenty at CFATL last night and to see the push that the CFNA crew put out there was AWESOME!!!! I am proud to be a part of the crew and it touches me that you all would show up and donate your hard earned money to such a great cause!!!! Thank you.
P.S.... I think I backed up my "Cock Diesel" performance last night.... When your only beaten by guys named Speal, Froning, and a bunch of Jacked up Marine RECON boys, it isn't that hard a loss to swallow.
