High Country vs. Birmingham - Game 2

Game 1 was crazy fun and ended in a 6-0 High Country loss.  Game 2 is at home and the boys are spewing revenge.  If you have never been to a Rugby game before, this is not one to miss.  The weather is supposed to be sunny and high 60's, so no excuses.  Drink-up afterwards at The Brewhouse Cafe in Little 5.

Our Regionals Qualifiers

Congratulations to Hils, JCamp, and Cap'n for moving forward to the CrossFit Regionals in Jacksonville, FL!

Only the top 15 men and women advanced from last weekend's Georgia CrossFit Sectionals and CFNA can say we are the proud home of 3 of them.  Nice work everyone and we cannot wait to see the carnage in Jacksonville!

Dr. D Shows His Stuff In CO

A few months ago our very own Dr. D moved out to Colorado.  Since then he's become a member of CrossFit Julia.  Recently their gym held a mini competition of 2 events:  CrossFit Total and Barbara.  Many of you may remember that Dr. D was no slouch on our whiteboards and apparently he hasn't lost anything in the move.  He finished 3rd and missed 2nd by a mere 7 points!  Nice work Doc.

Let's Get Ready to Rrruuummbbllee!

The Rumble at The Rock is just around the corner and we could not be anymore pumped!  All that attended the Garage Games knows how nice it is to have an area to go to in-between events to rest, eat, and just hangout.  And while Big Green will be in attendance we're not sure that it will be able to provide this space for us this time around so we're going to setup a tent for all CFNA'ers.

We recommend bringing any folding chairs, "picnic blankets", radios and anything else you can think of that we may want to have around in-between events.  Don't worry if you don't feel like taking all that stuff with you, just bring it to the gym today or tomorrow and throw it inside Big Green and we'll make sure it gets there!

Vartan Gets Certified

A BIG congrats to V for losing his V-card...  Level 1 V-card that is.  Vartan and 60+ others received their CrossFit Level 1 Certifications this past weekend at CrossFit Atlanta.  The Level 1 Certification is a two-day seminar that covers CrossFit's 9 fundamental movements, CrossFit theory, programming, nutrition and much more.  Nice job everyone!  Now go spread the gospel.

Part Annimal - Part Machine... 100% Iron Will

While that picture may be a bit misleading, it is representative of Annimal's "never give-up" spirit when approaching CrossFit.

Annimal entered the Garage Games in the Advanced Women's division knowing from the start how difficult it was going to be for her.  Afterall, you're typical Advanced Women's competitor is taller than 4'10" and weighs more than 110lbs.

Heart Of A Lion

I started CFNA in September 2008, pretty out of shape.  My goals for the Garage Games were to put in 100% effort, not DNF any workouts, have fun, represent CFNA, and prep for sectionals.  I registered in the advance division knowing that I was capable of completing the WODs, but also understanding that I would likely finish toward the bottom.  I finished 43 out of 53 in my division.  My running really held me back, so I know where I need to put in work.  I had an absolute blast, and feel I met all of my goals for this particular event.  The people (both CFNA and others) were amazing, very encouraging and supportive.  I barely avoided a DNF in the sandbag WOD and people I didn’t know were coming up to tell me how great of an effort it was.  Awesome, inspiring, sign me up again . . . immediately.

Jess D's Garage Games Experience

wow! what a weekend at the garage games! 4 WODs in 2 days....an insane challenge for my crossfit 2 month anniversary!

the first day started with a 5k trail run. i have never done a trail run in my life....and it showed when i fell in the pond that i was trying to cross. oh well, nothing like running in wet clothes in 40 degree weather to wake you up. following that "amazing race", a wall ball and kettlebell swing work out. fun stuff except that my short arms and legs will never get me to the wall ball olympics. i am not too beat up about it, it just highlighted something for me to work on...so i will add wall balls to my warm ups! to finish off the first day, i had to run a sandbag the size of a toddler up and down a hill and then deadlift my 115 pounds... when i started elements training, i could only deadlift the bar with 5 pounds on each side. i was able to do ten unbroken lifts and then had to break the remaining ten up into 3s.

the second day was by far my favorite. i got good and dirty with a WOD that included 4 600M runs, burpees, cleans, kettlebells, and situps in wet sand. two months ago the only sand you would have caught me laying down in would be on a beach somewhere.

so all in all the games were a total success for me. i pretty much came in last, but i completed every exercise with a huge smile on my face knowing that i was actually able to do it. thank you to everyone at crossfit north atlanta - could not have done any of this without your support, i don't even think my own parents have ever cheered that hard for me at an event.
